Have you noticed that your baby actually is quite unhappy when you are out of sight? Your baby may become very quiet, stop playing, or just burst out crying in protest. Even trips to the bathroom have to be timed and planned!
This is because your baby is unsure if you will be back. Imagine! You are the centre of your baby’s world and your baby is dependent on you for everything. So such anxiety is natural. Prepare your baby by being reassuring. An easy way to do so is by playing games such as peek-a-boo.
What you can do
Hide behind a towel or a blanket and reappear. Do this repeatedly until your baby gets the game. Your baby will show signs of getting the game by giving half smiles or twitching an arm or leg. Your baby will soon enough learn that you will return even if you can’t be seen for a bit. This is a great way to prepare your baby for short absences of 5 -10 minutes.
