At this age, your toddler has begun to have some fun while playing games and this makes him finally a fun player! Playing with him will not only help you bond and understand him better, but he will hone his learning ablilities and lots more by playing with you.
What you need to know:
If you do this on a regular basis, your child will become more cooperative, and you will feel more energized. It will help you become a happier parent. Your child needs to play, it is his work! It is his way of learning skills which he will need when he is full-grown, from finding food to getting along with others. It's also the way small humans process emotions. Your child is more physical than you. When he gets wound up emotionally, his body needs to discharge all that energy. That is one of the reasons he has so much more energy than you do, so he wears you out. But you can use this to your advantage, because when you play physical games with him, he giggles, sweats, screams and he releases stress hormones that he had otherwise had. Playing helps you feel closer to your kid.
