Your little one is now learning to grasp the difference between reality and make-believe. Yet, pretend play is very much present. He will love to step into powerful roles like a parent, policeman and will express a range of emotions and try to understand these roles better. As cognitive and fine motor skills develop, he will move towards more of reality than make-believe.
What you need to know
Don’t judge your child as he expresses his imagination. Try being part of it. He may talk about a fictitious trip to a theme park. You can simply respond by saying, “Dear, we have not yet been there, but if we go, what would you want to do?''
Your little one is not lying. Please be positive and avoid labelling him.
