Your child is now gaining a high sense of independence and wants to take care of her own needs. She wants to try using s spoon, fork and feed herself. Her pincer grasp will help her to hold and use the spoon and fork. She will still prefer to use her fingers which is normal. However, introduce, fork feeding after she has mastered spoon feeding.
What you need to know
Your little one may take time initially. Provide hand over hand help to your little one when she is trying to use the fork and is unable to get the food onto the fork. Give a little help as possible. Buy forks that have a soft, wide gripped handle and rounded prongs so that it is safe for her.
