When Can Your Baby Start Drinking Water?
In general your baby should not drink water until he is about 6 months old. Until then, he gains all hydration required for his body from breast milk or formula even during summers. Filling up your baby with water may decrease his appetite and leave him malnourished. At the same time giving too much of water too fast for him can cause his kidney to flush out sodium and electrolytes, leaving him salt – depleted. Once your baby completes 6 months old it is fine to give him sips of water when he feels thirsty. Once your baby starts with solids he will require more quantity of water. This will also help in avoiding constipation.
