At this stage, your child will be able to get on his feet all by himself and he will move about everywhere around the house. This is the perfect time to refine his motor skills, so that he will have great muscle coordination as he grows up. Try these simple, yet efficient activities.

1. Toys with wheels and a pull thread are a great way to start off with this. Your child will particularly be fascinated by toy cars, trains or wagons at this age. Try introducing one such toy so that he can pull the thread as he walks.

2. Cycling is a great activity to help him get better with his motor skills. You can introduce a bicycle with training wheels and take him to a place where there is a flat surface. Make sure to have an eye on him as he rides as he may hurt himself.

3. A scooter can be introduced too. This has one wheel at the front and two at the back. It comes with brakes and a board to stand on to ride it. It can be dangerous if not monitored and carried out in a safe environment, but it caters to great muscle coordination and motor skills.

4. Wind up toys with wheels are so versatile that they can help here as well. You can wind the toy up and let it go. Ask your child to follow it and bring it back to you. This is a fun and engaging way to improve his motor skills.
