Adai Avial

Adai avial is a South Indian dish which can easily be prepared at home and you will totally love it. It is highly nutritious as it is prepared from rice and lentils. While rice has high content of dietary fibre, niacin, Vitamin D, calcium, fibre, iron, thiamine and riboflavin, the lentils offer iron, potassium, copper, manganese, dietary fibre and proteins. 

Ingredients: 1 cup rice, ½ cup each of tur and chana dal, 2 tbsps each of moong and urad dal, salt, 4 dry red chillies, a pinch of hing, 1” ginger chopped, 1 tsp fennel seeds, a few curry leaves, oil, 1 chopped onion, 2 tbsp. grated coconut, a handful of finely chopped cilantro.


 1. Wash and soak the lentils with the dry red chillies for one hour. Later, grind them into a smooth paste along with the fennel seeds, curry leaves, ginger, hing and salt. 

 2. To the batter add the grated coconut, chopped onions and cilantro leaves and mix well. 

 3. Heat a griddle and pour out the batter into a dosa and cook till both sides are crispy and golden.
