Murmura Upma

Are you bored of regular upma? Try some healthy Murmura Upma instead! Murmura is a good source of carbohydrates, the peanuts provide healthy fats, and the peas provide vitamins and minerals.

Ingredients Puffed rice(murmura)- 6 cups,Oil- 1 tablespoon ,Mustard seeds- 1/2 teaspoon ,Cumin seeds- 1/2 teaspoon ,Curry leaves- 9-10, roughly torn,Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated Raw peanuts- 1/4 cup,Onion- 1, finely chopped Green peas- 1/4 cup, steamed Turmeric powder- 1/4 teaspoon,Tomato- 1, chopped,Lemon juice- 2 tablespoons,Coriander leaves- 1 tablespoon finely chopped , Salt – to taste.


1. Heat a pan or kadai with the oil. Add mustard seeds and allow them to crackle. Add cumin seeds and peanuts and roast on medium heat until the raw peanuts get a roasted aroma and are crisp.

2. Add the ginger, onions, and curry leaves with a little salt and sauté until transparent. Add peas, turmeric powder, tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes until the tomatoes are soft.

3. Add the Murmura, coriander leaves, lemon juice and stir everything together. Adjust salt and spice to taste and serve.
