Besan or gram flour has rich essential nutrients such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, zinc, copper etc. and fibre. This festive season use besan to prepare deliciously crunchy Bhakarwadis.

Ingredients:1 cup of Maida or Wheat Flour, 2 cups of Besan, a pinch of hing, 1 tsp of red chilli powder, ½ tsp of turmeric powder, salt to taste, oil for deep frying, 1 tsp of grated dessicated coconut, 1 tsp of sesame seeds, 1 tsp of poppy seeds, a pinch of black pepper powder, ½ tsp of garam masala, 1 tsp of cumin seeds, ½ tsp of coriander powder, ½ tsp of fennel seeds, ½ tsp of sugar and a dash of lemon juice.


1. Mix the maida and besan with hing, a little oil and add chilly and turmeric powders. Add water and make the dough. Set aside for 10 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, blend the rest of the ingredients and prepare a powder for the filling.

3. Roll out the dough, spread the filling and cut out round rings.

4. Let the filling set in and then deep fry the rings.
